What does curtain pole and track fitting cost in Ireland?

New curtains are not much use while the pole is still in its packaging. Whether you are moving into a house or replacing a rail that has come loose, fitting is a distinct job from buying fabric. The useful question is what an installer will charge for your windows, hardware and wall conditions.
Dubliner Handyman advertises curtain and blind installation from €110, with parts and materials excluded unless agreed. That is one Dublin business's starting price, checked on 6 October 2026, not a nationwide average or a per-window tariff. Use it as a named example and obtain an itemised quote for your own home.[1]
What is included in a fitting charge?
The named example covers measuring, bracket fitting, hanging and alignment, with a safety check and tidying. It does not establish the price for several windows, unusually heavy curtains or a bespoke bay track. Ask whether the quote is for one installation, a visit of a stated duration or the whole listed job.[1]
Keep three budget headings separate: curtains, poles or tracks, and installation. A made-to-measure curtain package may include fitting only when you buy the fabric and hardware from that supplier. A handyman fitting customer-supplied hardware offers a different scope, so compare totals only after making those differences explicit.
If you have already ordered the pole, send its model or product link. Ask the installer whether the brackets and supplied fixings are appropriate, and who provides any alternatives. Do not assume everything in the retail box is suitable for your particular wall or curtain weight.
Describe the windows before requesting a quote
- Number of windows, rooms and approximate opening widths.
- Straight pole, ceiling track, bay-window track or another arrangement.
- Whether curtains, poles, brackets and end pieces have arrived.
- Approximate curtain drop and whether they are light, lined or particularly heavy.
- Photographs of the full window and existing fixing areas, including any loose plaster.
- Removal of old fittings, filling holes and repainting required after the change.
Include the county and access information, and say if the windows are in a high stairwell. You do not need to identify the wall construction yourself. State what you know and let the installer establish appropriate support and safe access before committing to the installation.
Bay windows and ceiling tracks need a separate brief
A bay-window arrangement is not just a longer straight pole. Angles, joins and the way the curtains pass the supports affect the design. Share a photograph of the whole bay and ask who measures and orders the track. Avoid buying a custom component from approximate measurements unless responsibility is clearly agreed.
For ceiling-mounted tracks, tell the fitter about the intended position and any nearby lights or services. The fixing surface and curtain load need assessment. Existing holes are useful context, but they are not proof that a new track can safely use the same locations.
If you want a motorised system, disclose it at the enquiry stage. Agree who handles the power supply, controls and setup. A quote for a manually operated curtain pole should not be treated as including electrical work or a connection to a smart-home system.
Include child safety when fitting blinds or corded tracks
The CCPC warns that reachable loops in curtain or blind cords and chains can strangle young children. Its advice includes keeping cords out of reach, moving climbable furniture away from windows and ensuring the relevant safety devices are fitted. Choose cordless options where appropriate and follow the product's safety instructions.[2]
Ask the installer to include the manufacturer's required safety components in the job and explain their operation at handover. Do not accept an unfinished installation because the small safety fitting looks optional. If existing cords are unsafe, keep children away from them and seek a suitable remedy rather than waiting for a decorative upgrade.
Combining several windows can make the quote clearer
List all windows you want completed on the same visit. Request a total and identify any window priced separately because of access or custom hardware. This helps avoid several minimum attendance charges, although it does not guarantee a discount. Ask what happens if one ordered component is missing and a return visit is needed.
Clear the work area and check packages for obvious missing parts before the appointment. Keep product instructions. At handover, test the full opening and closing movement, check that the curtains do not foul the window and confirm the agreed making good. Ask about the fitting guarantee separately from the retailer's guarantee on the hardware.
An example curtain fitting request
Illustrative brief: 'Fit customer-supplied poles and curtains at three straight windows. Product links, approximate widths and photographs attached. Please include suitable fixings, removal of the old brackets and a clear total, with any filling or repainting priced separately. One window is close to a radiator; please assess clearance before fitting.'

Frequently asked questions
Is curtain fitting charged per window?+
Some businesses price individual windows and others price a visit or complete job. Ask the installer to identify the basis of the quote and list every window included.
Can I supply my own curtain pole?+
Many fitters accept customer-supplied hardware, but confirm this first. Share the product details and ask who supplies any different fixings needed for the wall.
Are blind safety devices included?+
Confirm the required devices and their installation explicitly. The CCPC says corded blinds should have the relevant safety devices fitted and cords kept out of children's reach.[2]
