Electrical project in Ireland

A new cooker can fit the space but still need a different electrical arrangement. Before comparing installation charges, establish the model you want and whether the existing supply is suitable. An advertised connection service should not be treated as a quote to upgrade a circuit.

This guide covers electric appliances in the Republic of Ireland. The examples are a retailer's published service prices checked on 2 October 2026, not a survey of electricians or a guaranteed price for your home.

Prices are typical 2026 estimates and vary by job, condition and location.

Connection prices have conditions

These Currys services require a delivery booking. Cabinet alterations and gas disconnection are outside the service. Confirm the appliance and property qualify before relying on the displayed installation charge.[1]

Ask for an itemised total covering the appliance, delivery, installation and separately arranged work. An electrician's standalone quote may include an assessment or additional work which a retailer's connection fee does not. Those are not directly comparable services.

Check the model before ordering

Send the manufacturer's model number and installation specification to the contractor. State whether you are replacing an oven, a separate hob, a freestanding cooker or a range. If changing two appliances, say so explicitly: an oven-and-hob project is not necessarily one connection.

Ask a registered electrical contractor to assess the supply and any alterations. Safe Electric provides the contractor register and guidance on completion certification. Do not choose a cable or protective-device rating from a generic online price guide.[2]

A new induction hob, for example, should be assessed using its actual specification and the existing installation. Appearance, a nearby switch or the fact that the previous cooker worked does not establish compatibility.

Budget items beyond electrical connection

  • Cabinet opening, worktop and ventilation clearances assessed against the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Any circuit alterations, their testing and the applicable certification.
  • Removal and disposal of the old appliance, with suitable access for lifting.
  • Making good after cables or furniture are altered, including who finishes surfaces.
  • A separate gas professional if an existing gas appliance must be disconnected.

Keep a gas-to-electric conversion separate

Tell the business at the outset if the old appliance uses gas. Ask it to identify the appropriate registered gas installer for that part of the work and coordinate the visits. Do not disconnect or cap gas pipework yourself. The electrical installer also needs to assess what the replacement requires; conversion is not automatically a standard electric appliance swap.

Likewise, a dual-fuel range is not covered by a guide to electric-only connection. Describe both fuel supplies when requesting a quote, and confirm which business is responsible for each stage.

A clear cooker installation brief

An illustrative request: 'Replace our built-in electric oven, retaining the existing kitchen. Model number and opening measurements supplied. Please assess whether the current connection is suitable, identify any additional work, and quote including testing and removal of the old oven.' Photographs should show accessible surfaces only, not opened electrical covers.

Frequently asked questions

Does fitting a new oven always need a new circuit?+

No blanket answer is reliable. The appliance specification and existing installation determine the work; obtain an assessment before assuming either a simple connection or a circuit upgrade.

Should I book the kitchen fitter or electrician first?+

Share the installation specification with both before ordering. Agree cabinet readiness and electrical work before scheduling final fitting.

Does the quoted fee include my hob too?+

Only if the written quote names both appliances and all associated work. Ask for separate scope lines where necessary.
