Homeowner project request

Interior Painting quotes in Ireland

Request a decorating quote for the rooms and surfaces you actually want finished. A room count is a useful start, but ceiling height, woodwork, existing wallpaper and surface condition all affect the work. Explain whether the home is empty, occupied or being prepared for move-in, and whether you want a full scheme or selected areas refreshed.

You post the job. Interested independent businesses may respond. You choose whether to hire; responses and availability are not guaranteed.

Define the work you want priced

This page helps you brief painters for an interior job, not estimate a universal price per room. Separate walls, ceilings, doors and trim, and ask what preparation is included before the finish is applied. Visible damp, recurring cracks or failing plaster may require assessment or a different trade before decoration; a coat of paint is not automatically a repair.

Rooms and surfaces

List each room, approximate dimensions and the surfaces to be painted. Specify ceilings, walls, skirting, architraves, doors and radiators separately where relevant. Flag stairwells, high ceilings and access constraints so a straightforward bedroom refresh is not priced as if it were a hall, stairs and landing with substantial woodwork.

Preparation and existing finish

Describe peeling paint, wallpaper, staining and known plaster defects without diagnosing the cause yourself. Ask which filling, sanding, stripping and protection tasks are allowed for. If damp or movement is suspected, agree how it will be assessed and resolved before painting rather than expecting decorative preparation to cover underlying building faults.

Paint specification and occupation

Explain the colour changes and intended finish, including whether the business supplies paint or you do. Ask how products are selected for each surface and how the rooms will be used during work. Furniture handling, ventilation, drying periods and keeping pets or children away from work areas need clear arrangements.

What to include in your request

  • List rooms, approximate sizes and all surfaces, including doors and trim rather than walls alone.
  • Provide clear photos of accessible areas and defects without exposing personal documents or family information.
  • Say whether wallpaper removal, furniture moving and protection of new floors are required.
  • Identify colour choices, who supplies paint, access dates and whether the house remains occupied.

Keep personal contact details out of descriptions and photos. Add them only in the dedicated contact fields when posting.

Compare the complete quote

Give each business the same project information. Check the total and what is included, excluded or provisional before choosing a proposal.

Preparation and protection
Compare filling, sanding, stripping, priming where required and the protection of floors and furniture. Ask what is excluded if existing coatings or plaster are unsound. A proposal for minor cosmetic preparation is not equivalent to extensive wallpaper removal and remedial plaster work.
Materials and finish
Record the surfaces, product range or agreed specification, colours and intended finish. Ask how coverage and necessary coats are addressed and how unexpected colour or substrate issues affect the price. A labour-only quotation should identify which materials you must buy and when they must be available.
Completion and changes
Clarify waste and packaging removal, tidying, touch-ups and any inspection before final payment. Confirm VAT where applicable and how extra rooms or changes after work begins are approved. Compare the same agreed finish, not just the cheapest headline or a broad phrase such as whole house.

Agree the sequence before booking

Sequence plaster repairs, leaks, electrical work and other disruptive tasks before the final decoration. Give every painter the same room and surface schedule and identify areas you want priced as options. Confirm lead time, access hours and where materials can be stored, rather than assuming all rooms can be emptied at once.

Choose colours and supplied materials before the agreed start and record any later changes. Ask how long areas need to remain protected or out of use under the product and site conditions. At completion, review the agreed surfaces with the painter and discuss any outstanding items before treating the job as finished.

At handover

  • Walk through the room and surface schedule and record any agreed finishing items.
  • Keep product and colour references and ask about care of the new finish.
  • Retain the invoice, relevant workmanship terms and any labelled leftover paint supplied.

Interior Painting: your questions answered

Can I get a quote by giving only the number of rooms?

It is a starting point, but list surfaces, approximate dimensions, ceiling heights and preparation too. A room with wallpaper and extensive trim is different from a clear room needing wall paint only. Photos or a visit may be needed for a dependable final scope.

Does interior painting include doors and skirting?

Only where agreed. Specify doors, frames, skirting, architraves, ceilings and other surfaces individually. Ask the business to identify exclusions, particularly if some items need a different preparation or product. This prevents a walls-only quote being compared with a complete redecorating package.

Should I supply my own paint?

Either arrangement can work if responsibilities are clear. Ask the painter which specification and quantities are needed and how unsuitable or late materials affect the job. Compare labour-only and supply-and-apply proposals separately so the full cost and expected finish remain visible.

Can painting hide a damp patch permanently?

Do not assume so. Explain when the patch appears and any known leak or damp history. Ask for the cause to be assessed and necessary repairs completed before decoration. A stain treatment or fresh colour is not proof that the source of moisture has been resolved.

Can painters work while I live in the property?

Discuss room access, furniture, ventilation, working hours and any household constraints before booking. The sequence may differ from an empty-home job. Agree who moves belongings and which areas need to be kept clear rather than assuming normal use can continue everywhere during preparation and drying.

Does posting a decorating job commit me to hire?

No. The request is free to post and you decide whether to accept a reply. Review the preparation, surfaces and materials before agreeing a price directly with the business. HomePros does not promise a number of quotes or a particular painter's availability.
