Homeowner project request

Solar Panel Installation quotes in Ireland

Request a solar PV proposal designed around your home and electricity use, rather than comparing panel counts alone. Describe the house, roof shape, any shading you know about and whether someone is usually home during daylight. If you already have solar equipment, state that clearly so an extension or repair is not mistaken for a new system.

You post the job. Interested independent businesses may respond. You choose whether to hire; responses and availability are not guaranteed.

Define the work you want priced

A complete installation quote should explain the equipment, roof assessment, electrical work, proposed performance assumptions and handover. Batteries, backup functionality and hot-water diversion are different options, not automatic features of every solar package. This page is a project brief for obtaining comparable proposals; it does not estimate your generation, savings or eligibility for a grant.

Roof and property assessment

Explain the roof material, approximate age, orientation and any planned repairs using information you already have. Include safely taken ground-level photos where helpful. Ask the installer to assess suitability, access and shading, rather than treating available roof area as proof that a particular array can be fitted. Mention shared ownership, protected structures or other consent issues.

System and optional equipment

Ask for the panel and inverter specification and the reasoning behind the proposed system size. Keep batteries and other extras separately identified so quotations can be compared on the same basis. If you want power during an outage, say so explicitly and ask what the designed system can and cannot supply in that situation.

Electrical integration and records

Identify the consumer-unit assessment, connections, cable route and any associated electrical upgrades in the proposal. Ask who handles required network processes and documentation. Monitoring access, commissioning records and maintenance arrangements should be understood before booking, rather than left as assumptions once panels are already on the roof.

What to include in your request

  • Describe your roof, known shading and any planned building or roof work without climbing to inspect it.
  • Use your own electricity records to explain consumption privately; do not upload bills containing personal details to the public request.
  • State whether you want a battery, hot-water option or backup capability, keeping each as a separate requirement.
  • Flag existing solar equipment, permissions and intended grant applications before accepting an installation date.

Keep personal contact details out of descriptions and photos. Add them only in the dedicated contact fields when posting.

Compare the complete quote

Give each business the same project information. Check the total and what is included, excluded or provisional before choosing a proposal.

Design and installed equipment
Compare specified capacity, panel and inverter models, mounting details and the basis of generation estimates. Ask how shading or a different roof layout changes the proposal. A higher panel count is not by itself evidence of a better match to your usage or a more complete installation.
Access and associated works
Identify roof-access arrangements, electrical changes, scaffolding where required and any excluded remedial work. Ask who makes good disturbed finishes and how hidden problems are handled. A package should state assumptions about the existing roof and electrical installation rather than imply all upgrades are included.
Full price and handover
Keep the full installed price separate from grant assumptions and optional equipment. Ask about commissioning, monitoring ownership, product warranties and workmanship support. Check who completes relevant network and scheme documents and what happens if equipment availability requires a specification change before work begins.

Agree the sequence before booking

Arrange a suitable assessment before ordering equipment, particularly if roof repairs or other upgrades are planned. Ask each business to price the same core requirements and show alternatives separately. Discuss installation access, electricity interruption and any work inside the house, and establish who approves changes discovered during the survey.

If you intend to use an SEAI scheme, check the current application sequence and company requirements before authorising work. A quotation or promised installation slot is not grant approval. Confirm what documents you will receive and retain a copy of the agreed design, payment stages and any limitations on the proposed monitoring or backup functions.

At handover

  • Obtain the agreed equipment, commissioning and electrical documentation and scheme records where applicable.
  • Confirm monitoring access is under the correct account and ask for operating and shutdown guidance.
  • Keep warranties, support contacts and maintenance instructions for the installed system.

Solar Panel Installation: your questions answered

Do I need to choose a panel count before requesting quotes?

No. Explain your roof and electricity needs and request a design assessment. Ask installers to show the proposed capacity and equipment and explain the assumptions behind their estimates. Comparable requirements are more useful than asking every business for the same arbitrary number of panels.

Does a solar installation automatically include a battery?

No. Ask for the battery, compatible equipment and its intended operation to be separately specified. A system without storage and a system with storage are different proposals. Check the basis of any claimed benefit against your expected electricity usage rather than comparing package names.

Will solar panels power my house during a power cut?

Do not assume that they will. Backup operation requires an appropriate designed arrangement and may cover only selected loads. Tell the installer what continuity you need and ask for a written explanation of the proposed system's limitations, not a general promise about solar power.

Should I repair an ageing roof before fitting solar panels?

Ask the relevant professionals to assess and coordinate the work. Removing an array later to undertake roof repairs can create a separate scope and cost. Mention known roof defects early and agree who is responsible for the roof assessment, remedial works and installation sequence.

Can I start installation and apply for the grant afterwards?

Do not assume retrospective support. Check SEAI's current application and approval requirements before supported work starts. Confirm that the business and proposed work meet the relevant conditions. This page does not decide eligibility or give a grant amount for your property.

Are projected savings guaranteed by HomePros?

No. HomePros provides a way to request quotes, not a performance guarantee. Ask the installer to explain usage, generation and tariff assumptions and the distinction between estimated savings, product cover and workmanship support. Keep the agreed specification with your quotation.
